Deutsche Telekom ICSS has announced a partnership with MegaFon to expand the TransBaltic Gateway eastwards towards Asia. MegaFon will provide the connectivity through its fibre optic network in Russia and its capabilities in Kazakhstan, and will extend the present route to run from Frankfurt to China. [read more]

 

PCCW Global has established a direct connection to the WACS cable at Kinshasa, to provide international undersea cable access to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The company is using direct connectivity to help international telecoms operators and multinational enterprises to connect to the DRC, enabling local operators and businesses to access links around the world. UK-based bandwidth infrastructure provider euNetworks has launched additional routes to Stockholm, Sweden, and Moscow, Russia, from its London base. The London-to-Stockholm route is a fibre-based solution that utilises dedicated low-latency DWDM technology and is designed to offer ultra-low-latency services to the Swedish capital. [read more]

 

Hong-Kong based Pacnet has deployed an optical mesh network with 100Gbps technology between Asia and the US. The deployment will be on Pacnet’s EAC Pacific fibre-optic cable system integrated with Optical Transport Network (OTN) switching over its high-capacity submarine cable systems in Asia-Pacific. Russian operator VimpelCom has introduced 4G LTE connectivity to the city of Kaliningrad on the Baltic coast. The company’s CEO, Mikhail Slobodin, told a local news agency that VimpelCom will offer coverage to approximately 80% of the city, with the launch intended to satisfy obligations set by the company’s LTE licence award. Sprint has selected Samsung Telecommunications America to support the deployment of its edge network in the 2.5GHz spectrum through LTE-TDD equipment. The partnership builds on Sprint’s Network Vision Project and means Samsung Mobile will provide radio network infrastructure, in addition to implementing new services for the delivery of a mobile broadband LTE network. Alcatel-Lucent has partnered with Mongolian service provider G-Mobile to improve 3G mobile broadband coverage in the country’s capital city, Ulaanbaatar. The French vendor will deploy small cell base stations for G-Mobile in densely populated areas of the city, in a bid to increase the service provider’s 3G network coverage. [read more]

Oi Brasil has partnered with Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) for the deployment of the operator’s LTE network in Brazil. The equipment vendor will supply all infrastructure for the roll-out, and will also upgrade Oi’s GSM and 3G networks across the country. [read more]
