Schaeppi has been recruited to the role internally after serving as head of the company, and has been interim CEO since Schloter’s death – a suspected suicide.
The company’s new CEO has 15 years of experience at Swisscom and will be tasked with offsetting decreasing phone bills across Europe and in Switzerland in particular.
He will also be charged with shaping the future of Fastweb SpA, the Italian fixed-line company that Swisscom acquired in 2007 for €4.6 billion. It made 80% of its revenues in Switzerland last year.
Vodafone has considered an acquisition of Fastweb, and made bids for the company in 2011 and this year, which were rejected by Swisscom.
Schaeppi has today reiterated that Fastweb is not for sale.
