DNA was put up for sale earlier this year as the company struggled with debt, but the sale was dropped as it failed to receive a satisfactory bid from private equity investors.
The company has battled with the rising costs and falling revenue from voice calls, and Tiuraniemi vacated her position on August 30, shortly after the company sale fell through.
Leinonen – previously VP of corporate business at DNA – said in a statement that he believes he can now lead the company forward.
“Our operating environment is undergoing a very powerful change, which is reflected in the growing importance of content and value-added services as well as in the expansion of operators’ traditional field of business,” said Leinonen.
“Consumerisation and constantly emerging new uses for devices, coupled with increasing competition, offer an interesting and motivating challenge for both DNA personnel and those co-operating with us.”
Leinonen’s role is effective immediately and he believes that DNA is well positioned for the future.
“We have modern, high-speed telecommunications networks, our customers are proven to be satisfied with DNA and our staff are extremely competent and committed,” Leinonen concluded.
