Geo Networks pens subsea cable deal with Emerald Networks

Geo Networks has signed an agreement with Emerald Networks to allow the US-based submarine cable system to extend its connectivity to London, UK.

Emerald connects North America to Ireland and Iceland via its Emerald Express submarine cable, and the agreement with Geo will allow Emerald physically diverse routes between Dublin, Ireland, and London, UK, on Geo’s East-West subsea system.

“We are excited about this agreement, as it provides a vital link to our terrestrial backhaul network, creating a seamless link from our PoP locations in Dublin to those in London," said William C Marra, CEO of Emerald Networks.

“Geo’s network is ideally suited for providing the diversity we require for our customers.”

Geo’s East-West subsea system is claimed to be the most advanced high-performance fibre network between Dublin and London and is also expected to allow for Emerald’s eventual entrance into continental Europe.

Chris Smedley, CEO at Geo, said: “Geo’s network assets are perfectly aligned with the demanding specifications of the Emerald Express system and will provide seamless connectivity from Ireland to the UK, and onwards to the rest of Europe.”

In October this year, Geo Networks deployed an express fibre route between the City of London and Docklands Telehouses in the UK.
