Irish regulator receives no bids for 1800MHZ spectrum

Ireland’s Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) has announced that it did not receive any offers from operators for the three lots of spectrum in the 1800MHz band that were put up for auction last year.

ComReg said that it will not rerun the auction for at least 12 months.

The spectrum was unassigned in a 2012 4G auction, which was aimed at promoting the roll-out of LTE in Ireland. The four successful 4G auction bidders were Vodafone, Three, Meteor and O2.

ComReg decided to award the unassigned 2x15MHz of 1800MHz spectrum – available for use until July 2015 – as three lots of 2x5MHz linked to specific frequencies within the band.
