Alcatel will utilise its converged IP/MPLS technology to provide Lazus customers with nationwide 2G, 3G and 4G services.
Metro networks will be rolled out to Bogota, Barranquilla, Cartagena, Santa Marta, Sincelejo, Monteria, Bucaramanga, Cali and Popayan in Colombia and Alcatel will also deliver advanced network management and planning tools.
Alberto Polifroni, commercial VP at Lazus, said: “The deployment of Alcatel-Lucent’s IP/MPLS solutions across Colombia will enable Lazus to remain the leader in our urban markets by offering leading-edge services for the newly available 4G LTE, as well as continuing to provide high-quality support for existing 2G and 3G services.”
The deployment in Colombia follows Alcatel-Lucent’s partnership with GlobeNet – revealed in December last year – for the completion of its subsea network between Colombia and the US.
Carlos Alberto Peña, Andean region leader at Alcatel-Lucent, said the deal with Lazus reinforces the company’s leadership in the country.
“These are quickly evolving markets, especially in the mobile space, and Lazus needed to choose a supplier who could address their immediate needs, as well as be depended upon to offer the right solutions in the future,” Peña said.
“Our offering provides enough flexibility for Lazus to enhance its advanced services in all markets.”
