Russian operator VimpelCom has partnered with Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) for the roll-out of 4G in selected regions in the country. Under the five-year agreement, NSN will be VimpelCom’s key supplier for radio equipment services for the 4G network extension to the central region of Russia, Siberia, South and most of the Volga and Ural regions. [read more]

France's SFR has signed an agreement with Alcatel-Lucent, which will see the French vendor upgrade the operator's ultra-broadband access network in the country. Alcatel will deploy its photonic service switch on SFR's network to advance it to an IP-optical converged infrastructure. [read more]

BICS has signed an agreement with Hurricane Electric for the expansion of its network across Europe and the upgrading of its service to 100G. Claimed to be the world’s largest IPv6-native internet backbone, Hurricane Electric will use the BICS pan-European network (PEN) to connect major European cities, and upgrade its services to 100G to meet the increasing demand for bandwidth in the region. Tata Communications has added to its portfolio of unified communications and collaboration (UCC) services with the launch of its SIP trunking service, Global SIP Connect. The service is designed to replace legacy trunking services with SIP-based PSTN access, and allow enterprise customers to aggregate voice traffic on Tata’s network. [read more]

UK-based Neul has launched NeulNET, its networking solution for the internet of things (IoT). Neul develops and supplies technology to network operators in Europe and the NeulNET system is designed to provide enhanced coverage, battery life and simplicity of operation for the IoT, compared to existing GPRS, 3G, CDMA and LTE WAN solutions. Optical transport provider Infinera has announced a partnership with Australia Japan Cable (AJC) to expand the capacity of the cable consortium's subsea network. Infinera will deploy its DTN-X packet optical transport network platform across the AJC submarine network, in a bid to increase its capacity and deliver 10, 40 and 100GbE services. [read more]

International telcos Telenor and Ooredoo have been granted telecoms operation licences in Myanmar, after winning the right to roll out mobile services over six months ago. The Myanmar government opened the telecom sector to foreign investment last year, a sector previously dominated by two state-owned incumbent companies. In June last year Ooredor and Telenor won 15-year 3G licences. [read more]

Mobile payments company Bango has announced that it will open a PoP at Interxion’s data centre in London. Bango selected Interxion’s services due to its need for data security, consistent uptime and the company’s metro locations.[read more]

BT’s LAN business, Openreach, was announced as the latest company to interconnect to Volta’s London data centre. Volta’s Great Sutton Street data centre launched in October last year, and is already claimed to be one of the most connected and resilient facilities in London, UK. [read more]
