Ciena has upgraded Pacnet’s trans-Pacific link connecting the US west coast to Japan, expanding it to a 100G network solution to allow OTN and Ethernet services, in addition to scalable bandwidth capacity.
Ciena will also upgrade the capacity on the Southern Cross network by adding an additional terabit to the 30,000km system by July this year.
This builds on a previous partnership between the two companies which saw the deployment of Ciena’s 100Gbps solution across Southern Cross’s network in July last year.
“The continued expansion of our network using the best 100G technology available underpins our strategy to support the development of high-speed broadband in Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and Fiji,” said Fiona Beck, CEO at Southern Cross.
