A media report in the country claimed that Huawei had hacked a BSNL mobile base station controller, and the government has taken action to investigate the matter further.
“An incident about the alleged hacking of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) network by M/S Huawei… has come to notice,” said Killi Kruparani, junior minister for communications and information technology. “The government has constituted an inter-ministerial committee to investigate the matter.”
The officer behind the investigation has declined to be identified, and BSNL has declined to comment beyond the minister’s statement.
Huawei’s spokesman for India has denied any wrongdoing.
"Huawei India denies such alleged hacking and continues to work closely with customers and governments in India to address any network security issue that may arise in technical and business operations," Suresh Vaidyanathan, spokesman for Huawei, said in a statement.
