A subsidiary of América Móvil, Claro Uruguay is deploying Alcatel-Lucent’s end-to-end LTE solution, designed to deliver advanced broadband services and ultra-high speeds to customers in the country.
The network will be fully deployed and commercially available in Uruguay’s capital of Montevideo by the end of this month, with additional areas being covered throughout 2014.
“The deployment of 4G LTE is very important for Claro to expand our competitiveness in wireless broadband and offer new services to our customers,” said Horacio Alvarellos, director of Claro Uruguay.
“Especially for our customers in Montevideo and other urban areas, it is important to offer a range of alternative services and improve coverage.”
Customers are expected to benefit from services such as HD video with video-on-demand, online gaming and video conferencing once the network has been fully deployed.
“This deal positions Alcatel-Lucent as strategic LTE supplier with one of the world’s top service providers and is a great opportunity to become a trusted partner of Claro AUP (Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay),” said Javier Rey, sales VP of America Móvil at Alcatel-Lucent.
The network forms part of América Móvil’s larger strategy for LTE growth in the region, which last year included the launch of a 4G network in Chile via its Claro subsidiary in the country.
