The three year agreement to extend broadband services supports the telco’s plan to evolve its voice and data networks into a single IP infrastructure, in a bid to provide customers with high-quality voice calls, faster internet access and new services.
“We were looking for a comprehensive technology solution that would allow us to reinforce our position as the leader in providing high-speed, high-quality voice and broadband services in Tunisia,” said Nizar Bouguila, CTO of Tunisie Telecom.
The move follows the successful trial of VDSL2 vectoring technology in December 2012, using Alcatel-Lucent’s Intelligent Services Access Manager (ISAM) 7302 platform running on Tunisie’s existing copper cable infrastructure. VDSL2 vectoring technology allows a shift to 100Mbps ultra-broadband that can support many applications like video-on-demand, online gaming and secure point-to-point Ethernet services.
“This three-year agreement underscores the confidence Tunisie has in our VDSL2 and GPON technology and ability to help provide customers with the fastest broadband speeds possible now and in the future,” said Faiçal Haffoudhi, country senior officer of Alcatel-Lucent Tunisia.
The announcement follows Alcatel-Lucent’s launch of a cloud-based communications solution last week for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs).
