The Nordic carrier’s network expansion will see it offer an extended portfolio of services, including IP, Ethernet, international voice and IPX-based services.

The partnership allows TeliaSonera to utilise Oman’s strategic location as a landing point for 10 regional cable systems, to meet growing customer demands for high performance connectivity.

“Partnering with TSIC positions us as a true link between the east and the west. It has expanded our visibility and positioned Omantel as the go-to provider for international carriers and service providers seeking to do business in Oman, as well as the rest of the Middle East,” he added.
The partnership builds on TeliaSonera’s 20 year experience with Middle Eastern operators, as well as its position as one of the leading providers of internet backbone routes in the region. The company owns and operates its 100G-enabled fibre network and has over 200 PoPs worldwide.
In September last year, the Omani government announced plans to sell a 19% stake in Omantel.
The Capacity Middle East 2014 conference opened today in Dubai and continues until March 5.
