The solution, Vantio ThreatAvert, was deployed across Rostelecom’s free Wifi hotspots earlier this year to protect its network from the sudden influx of visitors expected to use the service in the city, while providing a more reliable internet experience.
Vantio ThreatAvert – which is designed to prevent threats in fixed and mobile networks – was launched by the US-based security solution provider in October last year.
“With a sudden increase in users on our network, we needed a solution that would protect both users and our network assets,” said Muslim Medzhlumov, head of the network security department at Rostelecom.
The security solution leverages DNS data to protect service providers from attacks originating from within the network. The operator reported that they also added the ability to prevent inappropriate content being viewed on the network.
“By selecting Vantio ThreatAvert, Rostelecom is using a best-in-class solution to protect its network and deal with some of the challenges presented when a network has a sudden influx of new users and unsecured devices,” said Sanjay Kapoor, SVP of business strategy and CMO at Nominum. “It is vital that visitors using Wifi hotspots are able to access communications services without having to face any personal risk.”
