The joint venture between Accelero Capital and Orascom TMT Investments, in partnership with SUPERNAP, aims to build and operate data centres for cloud computing, internet and financial firms.
It will mainly target existing clients, including Google and eBay, Khaled Bichara, CEO of the entity, told Reuters.
Data transmission speeds and regulatory issues could also attract other clients to data centres built by the company.
“We’re going to countries and we tell potential clients that if you want to host your server and your data in such an environment, you don’t have to go all the way to the US,” Bichara said.
Operating as a privately held company, the joint venture is looking to secure funding to build ten large data centres, each spanning 230,000 square feet, and operations outside the US are expected to start next year.
The financial details of the project were undisclosed.
