Telenor is rolling out 1,000 new base stations with the aim of providing LTE coverage to 111 municipalities by the summer.
The move is designed to improve mobile coverage in rural Norway, as well as indoors.
“Today’s rapid development of digital services is placing increasing demands on the mobile network, and 4G will ensure improved capacity and higher speeds,” said Berit Svendsen, CEO of Telenor Norway. “At the same time, 4G using the 800MHz frequency provides better area coverage, not to mention the improvement in indoor coverage.”
Its announcement complements Telenor’s objective to provide 98% of the Norwegian population with high-speed mobile broadband before the end of 2015.
The operator was awarded spectrum in the 800MHz band in December's auction.
