The company completed a number of successful live trials in West Moonah, Cambridge, New Norfolk, Warrane and Hobart airport prior to the launch, and 4G services are now live in these areas.
“Vodafone’s 4G network continues to expand around the country and we are pleased to announce the launch of our fast, reliable 4G network in Tasmania,” said Benoit Hanssen, CTO at Vodafone Hutchison Australia.
“This is a launch I am especially proud of, as our excellent Tassie [Tasmanian] team call me regularly to ask when we’re going to switch it on... following our very successful testing, I am pleased to report we are offering fast, reliable 4G coverage in West Moonah, Cambridge, New Norfolk, Warrane and Hobart airport,” Hanssen added.
The launch means Tasmanian citizens will have access to high-speed, high-capacity 4G services, and Vodafone will be rolling out the service to further areas on the island in the coming months.
“One of the little-discussed benefits of switching on 4G networks is that as customers with 4G devices automatically move over onto the 4G network, it means there is greater capacity on our 3G networks,” Hanssen said. “So that means all of our customers notice the difference and are able to access faster data speeds.”
Phase two of the 4G roll-out is expected to cover sites in Hobart CBD, Bridgewater, Claremont, Howrah, Huonville, Kingston, Lauderdale, Richmond, Sandfly, Sorell and Mt. Faulkner.
Vodafone Hutchison Australia appointed Inaki Berroeta – previously the CEO of its Romanian unit – as CEO of the company earlier this year.
