The UK-based operator will deploy GENBAND’s Diameter Signalling Controller (DSC) solution which is designed to enable better co-operation between LTE networks and supports interworking between vendor equipment that is being deployed across its customers’ LTE networks.
The software will provide context-aware intelligent routing, scalable handling of SIP and diameter traffic, and secure connectivity to any LTE network.
“The DSC solves complex diameter signalling interworking, enabling network roaming across otherwise incompatible mobile networks,” said Steve Sherry, head of GIPX signalling, messaging and numbering for BT Wholesale.
The move addresses the many issues that come along with setting up roaming agreements, according to GENBAND.
Mobile providers typically have to negotiate bi-lateral roaming agreements with operators, implement point-to-point diameter interconnects and handle interoperability challenges between LTE.
“The enhanced BT GIPX solution addresses these challenges for BT’s international wholesale network, providing a seamless experience for roaming subscribers across 170-plus countries and varying vendor equipment and host network scenarios,” said David Hiscock, SVP of sales for Europe, the Middle East and Africa for GENBAND.
Earlier this week, BT and EE signed an agreement, under which EE will provide BT with mobile services.
