The move is designed to meet consumer demand for broadband capacity, in a market with one of the highest penetration and customer-usage rates in the world.
Alcatel-Lucent said it will deploy IP/MPLS network solutions to build an agile network, offering to improve customer experience for the end user and enterprise customers. The upgrades are designed to encourage better video downloads, improved service redundancy and the development of a new personalised service.
Timo Katajisto, EVP of Elisa, commented said the increasing data usage from Finnish customers made the upgrade integral.
“The world of our customers will become even more digital as data centres evolve into cloud services and the use of IPTV services continues increasing,” he said.
“Upgrading our core network to the new generation IP/MPLS network will ensure enough capacity and speed for our customers also in the future.”
