The deal will see iBasis provide LTE roaming through its LTE Signaling eXchange (LSX), enabling Polkomtel mobile subscribers with LTE access while travelling in the Netherlands. KPN mobile subscribers will also have access to LTE roaming in Poland.
“We are the first telecommunications operator to launch a commercial LTE network in Poland and the first to introduce new services, such as LTE in smartphones and LTE in prepaid offers,” said Tobias Solorz, CEO of Polkomtel. “We are the only operator which offers the possibility of using LTE to 66.7% of Poland’s population, nearly 26 million people. Now, Plus customers will also be the first in Poland to be able to use LTE while travelling abroad.”
iBasis and Polkomtel plan to expand LTE roaming for the Polish operator’s subscribers to many other countries in the coming months.
“We’re very pleased to be expanding the LTE roaming footprint for Polkomtel and KPN,” said Willem Offerhaus, CEO of iBasis. “The migration to LTE is an important step in creating a richer user experience for mobile subscribers, and we are at the forefront of enabling innovative operators like Polkomtel and KPN to deliver that experience to their customers anywhere, anytime.”
