Network equipment vendor Cisco has acquired threat analysis company ThreatGRID in an effort to boost its cybersecurity portfolio.

New York-based ThreatGRID specialises in malware analysis and threat intelligence technology, which analyses file behaviour to pinpoint attacks and defend against malware in the future.

“The combination of Cisco and ThreatGRID will enhance our already strong capabilities to aggregate and correlate data to identify advanced and evasive cyberthreats and provide intelligent cybersecurity solutions for the real world," said Hilton Romanski, head of business development at Cisco.

ThreatGrid will be integrated with Cisco's Advanced Malware Protection (AMP) suite, the company announced.

Expected to close by the end of this year, financial terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed.

"We have accomplished so many great things on our own, but now we have the opportunity to execute on a global scale with the support of the people, resources and reach of Cisco," said ThreatGRID co-founder and CTO, Dean De Beer.

"ThreatGRID can play an integral part in realising Cisco's security strategy.”

Earlier this month Cisco and wireless solutions provider Spectralink completed interoperability verification testing.
