Cellcom and Golan enter 4G network-sharing deal

Israeli operators Cellcom and Golan Telecom have agreed on a network-sharing deal to cover the country’s future 4G network.

The agreement will provide Golan with an indefeasible right of use on Cellcom's planned LTE network for approximately five years and nine months.

"Cellcom and Golan will provide the required frequencies for the operation of the 4G radio network and operate their own core network," Cellcom said in a statement.

The agreement is subject to approval by the anti-trust commissioner and the ministry of communications.

The move complements Cellcom’s plans to expand its network-sharing agreements, in an effort to generate future savings in operating expenses and capital expenditures.

The deal builds on a national roaming agreement between the two companies from 2013, which has been replaced with a sharing agreement for 2G and 3G network equipment.

The news seems to have put an end to plans to include operator Pelephone in a three-way network-sharing agreement with Cellcom and Golan for LTE.

In April this year, Cellcom selected Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) for the build-out of its 4G network.
