The Chinese vendor claims the 10Gbps speed is an industry first and the service will be used to deliver Wifi services up to 10 times faster than existing commercial networks.
The 10Gbps trial reached a transmission data rate of 10.53Gbps on 5GHz frequency bands and Huawei expects the development to support the creation of next-generation Wifi.
The company believes 10Gbps Wifi will enable a new era of Big Data applications and expects ultrafast Wifi to be commercially available by 2018, pending the agreement of global standards requirements.
Smartphones and applications have been driving the demand for ultrafast connectivity over the last three years and in 2010 Huawei launched next-generation Wifi technology research to focus on developing Wifi architecture innovation.
Huawei is not the only vendor focussing on next-generation network development and earlier this week, Swedish vendor Ericsson urged regulators in the EU to reduce restrictions surrounding the technology’s advancement.
As well as ultrafast Wifi, Huawei is also investing heavily in 5G and last November announced it was pumping $600 million into a 5G R&D portfolio.
