During the trial, the Croatian operator demonstrated HD video streaming by combining LTE technology with NFV.
"We are absolutely confident that the NFV technology is a defining trend in the mobile industry,” said Günther Ottendorfer, CTO of Telekom Austria Group. “This is just the beginning of a journey to explore the latest technologies and further improve services for our customers.”
NFV is a substantial change in the way telecoms infrastructure is deployed and is expected to significantly change the way applications are delivered to service providers.
Vipnet is the second-oldest subsidiary of Telekom Austria and the trial today marks 15 years of service from the company.
“NFV is not only an important topic within the telco industry, but today’s showcase also strongly emphasises our successful 15-year innovation strategy,” said Mladen Pejkovic, CEO at Vipnet.
NFV trials and partnerships have hit the headlines over the last few months with operators and vendors alike – Alcatel-Lucent, Telefónica, NTT Communications and Huawei to name but a few – experimenting with the technology.
