The fund has selected Rothschild Group to sell off the entity, after deciding to divest the business in March this year.
Invitel is Hungary’s second-largest fixed-line operator, and consolidated with Danish telecoms company TDC in September 2009.
Invitel is reportedly valued at up to €300 million, but it is likely assets in the company will be broken up to boost chances of a sale.
It is thought a sale process will begin in Q3 2014, with T-Mobile’s Hungarian unit (Magyar Telecom), Vodafone and Telenor all rumoured to be interested.
