Al-Thani will replace Abdulaziz Ibrahim Fakhroo as head of the Ooredoo-owned telco, now that Fakhroo’s term has come to an end.
Fakhroo is expected to stay in the Ooredoo Group in a different position, Reuters reports.
Al-Thani has held previous roles within the Ooredoo Group, including deputy chief officer of finance.
In March this year, Wataniya partnered with Sweden’s Ericsson for the upgrade of its radio access network in the country.
