Zain Group appoints CCO

Kuwaiti operator Zain has appointed Duncan Howard as CCO of the Zain Group.

Howard’s role is effective of July 1 2014, and he replaces Albert Fernandes, who according to a statement from the company has resigned for personal reasons.

Howard has been with Zain Group since September 2013 as a manager of group operations, and his new position will see him assume responsibility for all commercial, marketing, branding and advertising areas across Zain’s regional footprint.

“Having worked closely with Duncan over the last nine months, he has proven himself as a versatile executive, excelling in his roles and responsibilities to date,” said Scott Gegenheimer, CEO at Zain Group. “I am confident he will rise up to the challenges that lie ahead and take Zain’s commercial activities to the next level.”

Howard has 20 years’ experience in mobile, television and fixed-line telecoms across the MENA region, with previous positions at Vodafone Egypt.

He obtained an MBA from the UK Open University as well as a degree in System Analysis from the University of the West of England (UWE).

Last month, Zain Kuwait partnered with Nokia Networks and successfully demonstrated the country’s first ever voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) call using its commercial LTE network.
