Kazakhtelecom subsidiary launches LTE networks

Kazakhtelecom subsidiary Altel has launched LTE networks in Kyzylorda and Taraz, in the south of the country, according to local reports.

The network in Kyzylorda is said to operate speeds of up to 100Mbps and Altel plans to deploy a GSM/UMTS network in the city later this year.

LTE services were reportedly launched in Kazkahstan in the cities of Astana, Almaty, Aktau, Aktobe, Atyrau, Yesik, Kapchagay, Karaganda, Kaskelen, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Shuchinsk, Shymkent and Talgar last year.

Altel’s roll-out follows reports earlier this year that rival operator Kcell was struggling to negotiate a 4G licence in the country.
