The deal will see the two firms optimise and share telecoms infrastructure across India, in a bid to reduce costs, preserve critical capital and environment and deliver better quality of service.
Reliance Jio will gain access to Videocon’s telecoms tower infrastructure across the circles it operates in, and Videocon will look to explore future 4G network sharing opportunities with Reliance Jio, as well as optical fibre network sharing and internet broadband services.
Arvind Bali, director and CEO at Videcon Telecom, told reporters that the possibilities for mutual benefit between the two companies were endless.
“Strategic deals like this go a long way in helping eliminate the duplication of infrastructure and redundancy, while reducing costs, and improving the quality of service,” said Bali.
“We are serious about our own tower infra business and we are going aggressive with our plans.”
Videocon has also announced the roll-out of its 4G LTE/FDD services on the 1800MHz band across its six operational telecoms circles.
“We have our own optical fibre cable network and broadband services in Punjab which we strengthen via this association… [and] we own national long distance and international long distance networks, which can be shared in near future,” he added.
“Going forward, the possibilities can also be extended to roaming on 2G, 4G networks."
Reliance Jio has signed a number of infrastructure sharing deals this year, including those with Ascend in June, ATC India in April and Viom Networks in March.
