DE-CIX will deploy its Apollon interconnection platform in Sabey’s 1million-square-foot facility at 375 Pearl Street in Lower Manhattan and the expansion is set to take place in the next 30-60 days.
John Sabey, president of Sabey Data Centers, said that it has been working on a business agreement with DE-CIX – which launched operations in New York in November 2013 – since January this year.
“The agreement clearly shows that both parties strongly support the growth of New York as an internet hub for the region,” he said.
DE-CIX New York is already deployed in seven data centres across New York with 111 access points in the metro area.
The agreement will see Sabey’s IGX fibre network deliver redundant links on diverse routes to connect Intergate.Manhattan with DE-CIX at two locations in the city; 111 Eighth Avenue and 60 Hudson Street.
The PoP will also allow Sabey to use services from DE-CIX which include peering and Layer 2 connectivity to other NYC data centres.
“Expanding to Sabey’s Intergate.Manhattan facility is part of our effort to establish a DE-CIX presence in every relevant data centre and carrier hotel in this metro,” said Frank Orlowski, CMO at DE-CIX.
“DE-CIX New York is just a cross connect away from 99% of the providers in this metro market.”
The German firm hopes to grow its New York facility into one of the world’s five largest internet exchanges by 2020 and last month, it signed a collaboration agreement with fibre-optic cable provider Angola Cables in Africa.
