The cell sites are located in areas across Pike, Spencer, Vanderburgh and Warrick counties and the upgrades are designed to provide better coverage and services to businesses and consumers in those areas.
“Our goal is for our customers to have an extraordinary experience, and they’ll be able to download, upload, stream and game faster than ever before on our 4G LTE network,” said Bill Soards, president of AT&T Indiana.
“As part of these south west Indiana communities, we’re always looking for new opportunities to provide enhanced coverage, and our investment in the local wireless network is another way we’re accomplishing that,” he added.
AT&T invested approximately $1.75 billion in its mobile and fixed-line networks across Indiana between 2011 and 2013, and the site upgrades are part of the company’s strategy to expand these networks and drive innovation for enhanced user experience.
State Senator Jim Tomes said that the upgrades were a “tremendous investment in modern technology for south western Indiana”.
“We appreciate AT&T’s commitment to bringing our communities the wireless connectivity they demand,” he said.
In February this year, AT&T expanded its 4G capacity in Oregon with the acquisition of spectrum from BendBroadband in the state.
