CEC Liquid Telecom appoints Zambia MD

Liquid Telecom and Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC) have appointed Andrew Kapula as managing director of CEC Liquid Telecom in Zambia.

The joint venture went live with its nationwide fibre network in November 2011, and Kapula will focus on the continued expansion of this backbone infrastructure as part of his new role.

The company has said it will invest more than $15 million into the deployment of fibre-based broadband to Zambians in 2014, and Kapula will also be overseeing CEC Liquid Telecom’s expansion into new vertical markets, as well as the diversification of its product portfolio.

“Zambia has a highly competitive telecoms market [and] CEC Liquid Telecom has a well-deserved reputation for quality, reliability and good customer service,” said Kapula.

“It is great to be leading the team in Zambia and we will be working extremely hard to increase our market share, penetrate new markets and continue to provide businesses and homes with the fastest and most reliable broadband services in the country.”

Kapula has served on the board of CEC Liquid Telecom since 2011, and has been at the company itself for more than 17 years in a variety of roles.

He has a particular interest in helping to digitise the country, and was instrumental in the deployment of CEC’s fibre network.

“Liquid Telecom is building Africa’s digital future and I share the company’s belief that everyone should have access to fast broadband,” Kapula added.
