Telekom already operates internet and telecoms services in Bosnia, and the company said it was now aiming to expand its reach across south eastern Europe.
“The Telekom Slovenia group has a strategic goal to strengthen its position of strong regional telecommunication operator in the markets of south eastern Europe,” said the company in a statement.
Financial details regarding the deal were undisclosed, and Telekom, which is majority state owned, also has operating units across Croatia, Montenegro, Kosovo and Macedonia.
The company could be set for privatisation after political newcomer Miro Cerar and his centre-left SMC party won Slovenia’s recent election. He has confirmed he will consider the sale of firms like Telekom once in power.
Cerar’s coalition government is expected to be in control from September.
Earlier in July it was suggested that operators including Deutsche Telekom, Turkcell and investment company CVC could make a bid for Telekom should it become available.
