The MVNO which offers cheap international calls, obtained a licence to operate in the country earlier this year, and will reportedly use Telefónica’s network in the country to deliver services.
Spanish operator Telefónica already has similar deals in place with Virgin Mobile, Megacable and Maxcom, allowing them to use its network.
Lycamobile targeted the North American market in September 2012, and is now expected to use its licence to focus on the cross-border market between Mexico and the US.
Mexico’s recently passed telecoms reform was designed to encourage foreign investment and limit America Movil’s dominance in the country.
Although a step in the right direction for this desired foreign investment in Mexico, MVNOs still comprise a very small portion of the country’s market.
