The trial comes less than a year after the launch of Vodafone’s 4G services in the UK, and allows calls to be carried across this data network, rather than using existing 3G or 3G voice networks.
“We have been continually developing and investing heavily in our UK network since it launched nearly 30 years ago,” said Fergal Kelly, CTO at Vodafone UK. “Our trial of VoLTE, less than a year after the launch of our 4G network, is the next major innovation, and is hugely important as we continue our work to build the UK’s best network.”
Vodafone will further develop its VoLTE offering by increasing its ability to receive calls and use data simultaneously, better voice call quality and performance and ensure high-quality video calling without buffering or pixelating.
The trial follows a number of schemes from the mobile operator including the expansion of its single RAN in March, as part of its Project Spring initiative, in partnership with Huawei.
Vodafone’s 4G network now covers approximately 263 cities, towns and districts across the UK.
