MegaFon and Ericsson ink infrastructure agreement

Russia’s MegaFon has signed a seven-year agreement with Swedish vendor Ericsson for the development of the operator’s telecoms infrastructure.

Terms of the deal state that Ericsson will supply equipment and software to upgrade and modernise MegaFon’s 2G, 3G and 4G core networks for its duration.

“With this agreement we are opening a new page in the relations between the two companies,” said Evgeny Chermashentsev, deputy CEO for infrastructure at MegaFon.

The first stage of the deal will see Ericsson upgrade MegaFon’s network in the north west region of the country, and involves the possibility of substituting Ericsson equipment for other vendor’s equipment in any region.

Ericsson’s services and solutions will allow MegaFon to introduce new products quickly and efficiently, with a high level of service due to increased capacity and extended coverage.

“Our portfolio and global market knowledge allows us to be confident that we can solve problems of any complexity and scale in the shortest possible time and with maximum efficiency,” said Charlotta Sund, head of Northern Europe and Central Asia at Ericsson.

“Like MegaFon, Ericsson attaches great importance to improving the availability of high-quality mobile services and will support the operator in development of its telecommunications infrastructure,” she added.

The two companies share a longstanding relationship and partnered for M2M services in November 2012.
