Ericsson’s Mobility-based Policy is designed to support location-based mobile user experience, as well as reducing signalling traffic in the network.
“To accommodate our subscribers and data traffic growth, it is critical to optimise our spectrum,” said Yoichi Funabiki, director of mobile network planning division in SoftBank Mobile’s core network department.
“By enabling us to dynamically allocate the best radio resources on a per-user, per-terminal basis, Ericsson Mobility-based Policy has the potential to increase our network flexibility while reducing signalling traffic network-wide.”
Funabiki also expects this to drive additional opportunities for further network improvement, and the policy is well-suited to the high-speed network requirements of Tokyo.

SoftBank and Ericsson share a longstanding relationship and in February 2013, partnered to upgrade the operator’s evolved packet core.
