ICE is set to replace Swedish operator Tele2 in Norway, after the operator lost key ground in the country’s recent spectrum auction.
ICE’s head of operations in Norway, Eivind Helgaker, told Reuters that the company will reveal the suppliers it has chosen and the services it will launch later this month.
He did not reveal whether the company will also launch voice services, and stated that “the only service operators actually put a price on is data”. 4G is expected to launch in 2015.
“There’s no doubt that voice revenues are exciting in the Norwegian market. If you look at Norwegian telecoms revenues you’ll see that a very large part is tied to voice,” said Helgaker. “Customers buy packages where voice and text messaging are free, and with a certain quantity of data.”
