Ghana becomes the sixth country in sub-Saharan Africa to launch high-speed internet, and it has reportedly invested over $100 million for the first phase of the LTE network, developing 300 cell sites.
John Taylor, who owns Surfline, said the company aims to go nationwide in two years, after initially launching the pre-paid data service in the country’s capital and a nearby port city Tema.
“We want to fill the void by providing high-speed connectivity to facilitate e-education, e-commerce and facilitate long distance activates especially by people living outside the cities,” he added.
South Africa-based MTN dominates Ghana’s market, but rapid cell and internet growth across Africa is generating further investment in the region.
