Telenor-owned Dtac is now looking for a permanent CEO, and has appointed Brekke in the role on an interim basis after he served in the role during 2005-2008.
Brekke will also continue as the company’s EVP and head of Telenor Group’s Asian business.
“Dtac is in a strong position to capture market share and innovate to meet the growing demand for data services in Thailand,” said Brekke. “The company is firmly anchored to the strategy of delivering internet for all in Thailand and I look forward to contributing in my capacity as an interim CEO.”
Boonchai Bencharongkul, chairman at the company, also paid tribute to Abdullah, stating that he was integral in leading the company through significant changes in the market since his appointment in 2011.
“In 2011, Thailand was still at an early stage in the adoption of internet-based services,” he said. “Today, the country is at the forefront of digital services usage in Asia. Succeeding in this environment requires a tremendous ability to constantly innovate and transform to meet customer expectations. When Eddy Abdullah now steps down, I would like to thank him for his dedication to Dtac, its customers, partners and employees.”
