The two companies have signed a confirmation of award which states that Alcatel-Lucent will upgrade Globe’s wireless network infrastructure in Visayas and Mindanao from WiMax to LTE-TDD and LTE-FDD.
“The roll-out of LTE technologies will provide increased internet and fixed/wireless broadband capacity and better broadband experience for our customers in the Visayas and Mindanao regions,” said Ernest L. Cu, president and CEO at Globe Telecom.
“This is particularly significant for the Visayas region which is still recovering from last year’s severe typhoon.”
The upgrade forms part of Globe’s continued efforts to deploy advanced technologies for a better broadband experience, and is expected to deliver greater network capacity and faster transmission speeds.
“The project also supports the Philippine government’s thrust to expand the reach of broadband internet services which has been emphasized as an area for national improvement,” Cu added.
Alcatel-Lucent will deploy its LTE RAN solution which is designed to deliver ultra-broadband internet access to a geographically diverse area comprising 7,107 islands.
“This project not only highlights how our LTE-TDD technology is expanding, but also continues the strong momentum of mobile ultra-broadband access in the Asia-Pacific region,” said Michel Combes, CEO at Alcatel-Lucent.
Earlier this month, Telefonica selected Alcatel-Lucent for its 100G solution.
