Sorrento Networks specialises in developing optical access solutions, delivering CWDM, DWDM and ROADM products, as well as helping to add bandwidth to client’s networks and applications.
The acquisition will see Wales-based Comtek service, support, repair, manufacture and upgrade all Sorrento Networks equipment.
“Sorrento Networks’ solutions underpin the network operations of some of the world’s largest carriers, service providers, enterprises and data centre services providers across the world,” said John Freebairn, group director and VP of business development at Comtek.
“At Comtek, we have spent years repairing and servicing this equipment, putting us in a great position to meet the need of Sorrento Networks’ customers now, and to develop the technology they will need in the future.”
Comtek hopes to extend the life of all existing Sorrento Networks’ deployments, and has a strategy for further upgrades to its feature set.
Askar Sheibani, CEO and founder at Comtek, said that until now, customers of Sorrento Networks have been in a “state of flux, with no vendor to service their existing telecoms infrastructure”.
“The acquisition represents yet another chapter for Comtek in extending the lifespan of telecoms infrastructures, protecting customers’ investments and eliminating the threat of having to overhaul entire networks,” Sheibani added.
Financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.
