The NNI will see Telstra utilise Tata’s 116 PoPs in several Indian cities – including Jaipur, Surat and Trichy – enabling the operator’s multinational customers to benefit from high-quality connectivity into and out of the country.
A report from Google earlier this year predicted that the country will experience a huge data boom in the next few years, and PricewaterhouseCoopers said that India is set to become the third-largest economy in the world by 2030.
“When you combine this with its young and burgeoning working-age population, you’ve got a compelling consumption boom and a competitive edge that sets Asia’s third-largest economy apart from many other countries,” said Bernadette Noujaim Baldwin, head of connectivity and platforms portfolio at Telstra Global Enterprises & Services.
“With these economic and social indicators in mind, we’re seeing demand for data connectivity throughout India grow as an increasing number of Asia, European and America headquartered businesses look to India for long-term growth opportunities,” she added.
The agreement forms part of Telstra’s broader MPLS strategy which is designed to establish NNIs in emerging markets, as well as expand its own on-net PoPs.
The two companies have defined roles and responsibilities for the management of the NNI to allow for seamless delivery, reduced latency and increased network availability.
“India is a key emerging market, and our position as a company founded in India, coupled with our Tier-1 network which circles the globe, allows us to provide international customers with best-in-class performance and coverage across India and beyond,” said James Walker, VP of managed network services at Tata Communications.
“We are pleased to be working with Telstra to provide their customers the high level of connectivity support and access needed for growth and global investment into this key region.”
Telstra launched its end-to-end network solutions for Indian customers in September last year.
