Europe’s telecoms commission launched the investigation in July last year after claims that Deutsche Telekom, Orange and Telefónica had used their market power by attempting to strike deals with internet companies to deliver content services to consumers over their networks.
It was claimed that approximately 100 million people in Europe experienced restrictions on their internet services, however the European Commission has now closed the investigation.
“The commission found no evidence of behaviour aimed at foreclosing transit services from the market or at providing an unfair advantage to the telecoms operators’ own proprietary content services,” said an EU executive.
Cogent Communications in the US is reported to have first raised the concerns, and unannounced inspections were launched to establish whether the operators had acted in an anti-competitive way.
