Hurricane Electric extends global network to Equinix’s Asian and European data centres

Global internet backbone provider Hurricane Electric is to extend its IPv4 and IPv6 networks to Equinix’s data centres in Asia and Europe.

The move expands Hurricane Electric’s footprint into a total of 17 of Equinix’s International Business Exchange (IBX) facilities.

The companies, which have worked together since 2002, hope the deployments will support the migration to IPv6 in a number of markets. They claim that IPv6 penetration has doubled over the last 6 months, following Hurricane’s deployment in Equinix’s Munich and Frankfurt facilities.

"Throughout our relationship with Hurricane Electric we have seen waves of innovation begin in our data centres and become widely accepted. Over a decade ago, we introduced the Equinix Internet Exchange for peering, and together with internet backbone providers like Hurricane Electric, we educated the market on its vital importance in the operation of the internet”, commented VP of Equinix, Jim Poole.
