Spark selects Ericsson for IT transformation

Spark New Zealand has deployed Swedish vendor Ericsson’s service agility suite to re-engineer its IT platforms and improve agility services.

The partnership was revealed at the Ericsson OSS/BSS Summit 2014 in New York this week by Claire Barber, GM of change and technology at Spark, who said that the roll-out confirms the operator’s commitment to its customers.

“Our re-engineering programme has reduced multiple overlapping products and automated hundreds of manual processes, leading to improvements in new service roll-out and more effective cost utilisation,” Barber said. “As part of Ericsson Service Agility Suite, Ericsson Catalog Manager gives us one of the modular components we needed to realise our plan.”

Spark is reviewing and updating the processes and systems it uses to launch and deliver services, with a strong focus on customer experience. The company is looking to automate as many processes as possible, and simplify those that must remain manual.

“Our driving aim of the process is to better manage our network and customer services in order to continue to improve customer engagement and experience,” Barber said.

Ericsson’s solution is designed to help operators quickly develop offerings, drive sales and manage fulfilment processes, and the vendor said that it is an essential building block for Spark’s IT upgrade.

“A sophisticated Catalog Manager has been key to helping our customers simplify new product and service creation from re-usable product, service and resource components,” said Elisabetta Romano, VP and head of OSS and service enablement, business unit support solutions at Ericsson.

The Ericsson deal complements Spark’s movement into the digital age following its rebrand earlier this year. Capacity spoke to Nick Clarke, GM of wholesale at Spark, in September about the transition.
