The real estate development, investment and management firm has partnered with industry veteran Hunter Newby, who is also founder and CEO of Allied Fibre, and plans to redevelop the building into a co-location facility.
717 South Wells Street was redeveloped from a manufacturing facility to a telecoms “carrier hotel” by its previous owner in the late 1990s, and claims to be one of the most fibre-dense, network-neutral facilities in Chicago.
"With over a dozen networks, 717 South Wells has a solid foundation of carrier customers,” commented Joshua Maes, VP of Amerimar. "We look forward to growing the network roster at the property."
The move marks the third project launched by Amerimar and Hunter Newby, with the two parties also acquiring another data centre property in Philadelphia in March.
"Chicago is not only a major junction point for the north-south and east-west domestic fibre routes in the midwest, but it is also a nexus for multiple international networks, making it a global gateway and therefore strategic for us and our customers" commented Newby.
Financial details of the acquisition were undisclosed.
