Ericsson will deploy its HD voice solution over Zain’s existing 3G radio and core network in Bahrain, in a bid to provide higher voice quality, more effective conference calls and better speech-to-text applications to its customers.
“We always strive to bring the best customer experience to our subscribers in the Kingdom,” said Mohammad Zainalabedin, general manager of Zain Bahrain.
“Our customers demand high-quality services and with Ericsson’s HD voice solution we further differentiate our services within the Bahraini market.”
Ericsson’s HD voice solution is a standardised technology, based on adaptive multi-rate (AMR) wideband, and has already been deployed by a number of operators in the Middle East.
“We have been partners with Zain for many years now and we are also the sole supplier of their core and radio network,” said Rafiah Ibrahim, president of Ericsson Region Middle East.
“Now Zain has chosen to facilitate a smooth upgrade of their network to support HD voice which will benefit its customers.”
Ericsson and its subsidiary ST-Ericsson successfully demonstrated what was claimed to be the world’s first dual mode, high-definition VoLTE connection between LTE FDD and LTE TDD in early 2013.
