The move marks the kingdom’s second MVNO service, following Virgin Mobile East and Africa’s commercial launch in late September.
The service leverages Mobily’s network and offers a low-cost, pay-as-you-go mobile service, targeting the estimated 10 million expatriates living in Saudi Arabia.
“Offering high quality and low cost mobile products to migrant communities is the driving force of our business,” said Yoganathan Ratheesan, chairman and CEO of Lebara Group. “With today’s launch we’ll be able to offer this service to the millions of expats living and working in Saudi Arabia, helping them stay connected to their friends and family at home.”
Lebara Mobile KSA is a Saudi Arabian company supported by an alliance of major Saudi Arabian investors and the Lebara Group.
The arrival of MVNO services in Saudi Arabia is expected to bring much-needed competition to the market, with the kingdom being only the second country in the Gulf after Oman to introduce the MVNO model.
