An Ericsson employee since 1996 – and part of the Swedish vendor’s executive leadership team since 2008 – Wibergh’s resignation is effective immediately.
Wibergh will report to Vodafone chief executive Vittorio Colao when he joins the group in May, but will remain available to Ericsson until April 30, 2015.
President and CEO, Hans Vestberg will assume Wibergh’s role as head of segment networks, which consists of the business unit cloud & IP, as well as radio.
“Under Johan’s leadership we have consolidated our market leadership in mobile networks and taken important steps to drive company transformation in IP, cloud and the evolution towards 5G,” Vestberg said.
“I am proud to see that he now take on another senior position in the industry.”
Wibergh replaces Steve Pusey who is leaving Vodafone to retire.
