Nokia Networks will also upgrade and expand Safaricom’s existing 2G and 3G network infrastructure.
The LTE-A network will be designed to offer peak speeds of up to 100Mbps and Safaricom will initially roll out the 4G services in Nairobi and Mombasa.

Carrier aggregation is a key feature of LTE-A, enabling operators to combine separate spectrum bands in a bid to boost capacity and speed as well as performance.
Nokia Networks will deploy its Single RAN Advanced platform based on the Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station for the 2G, 3G and 4G technologies.
